What is Unique about Sun City?

What is most unique about this community is that it was the first Del Webb community in the country. Developed by its founder Del E. Webb, the community opened with a 5 models, a golf course and commercial center. Mr. Webbs vision was to develop self contained destination retirement communities for those 55 & Better. More than 100,000 potential buyers arrived on the opening weekend resulting in a Time Magazine Cover story. The community is still a thriving community today offering great home values and low taxes.

Life at Sun City, Arizona

Sun City, Arizona was the first of the active adult communities in the state and in the country as well. It was started by Del Webb in 1960 and currently has more than 11 golf courses, 26,000 homes and a myriad of social clubs and amenities. Additionally, Sun City, Arizona is famous for its low property taxes and association fees and astonishing home values.

In spite of the newly founded adult communities in the State of Arizona, Sun City continues to be a well-known retirement destination. In fact, buyers who are looking for low property taxes, mature landscaping and affordable homes in a nice and decent location near the highway and extensive shopping go for Sun City. Its remodeled homes, along and extensive amenities make this community even more attractive and hard to overlook.

Del Webb started the idea of active adult community – an idea that residents must live in a community that is self-reliant – having the right to use almost all amenities anyone could think of. Moreover, the Sun City residents take pleasure in its interconnectedness with its nearby attractions and have been provided with suitable transportation to shopping centers and more within the area.

Sun City, Arizona is known for its senior fitness that offers the right exercise and fitness education to seniors, regardless of their age. In addition, over 350 cultural, recreational, charitable, civic, church, and service groups offer the residents of Sun City an almost incredible activity choices, along with country clubs, swimming, golf courses, and other individual hobby and sports opportunities made available by recreation centers.

You can go biking, hiking, gardening, or model railroading. You can also learn music and drama, if you want. Feel free to mingle with fellow Sun City residents from the same geographical or occupational backgrounds, and the good thing is that there are several clubs for that as well. Another option is to widen your horizon by taking courses at the community’s college and university branches. Furthermore, you can be a volunteer here or in the nearby communities.

Approximately 200 interest groups and clubs can be found in Sun City. No matter what your passion is, there is a possibility that you will find a group of residents who have the same interests as yours. Apart from the numerous interest groups and clubs, Sun City takes pride in its array of exciting activities that comprise of parties, ongoing education, fitness classes, and scheduled trips to the community’s attractions.

Children are always welcome at Sun City, and there are tons of activities and programs especially for them. Swimming, tennis, mini golf, a visit to local libraries, table tennis, bowling, and racquetball are just some of the things that they can do during their stay.

Sun City Homes and Real Estate

Sun City homes are affordable that they have become popular and highly praised. It is expected that homes constructed in the ‘60s and ‘70s do not look very modern; however, a lot of homes were given a ‘face lift’ and have designs consisting of modern kitchens, appealing designs and open floor plans.

More than 100 floor plans were provided by Del Webb during Sun City’s construction that lasted for 18 years. As a result of home remodeling, a lot of homes do not have the original floor plan when they were initially constructed. Buyers have a lot to choose from – from garden apartments to duplexes or patio homes or ranch-style homes for the single family. While homes vary in price and style, buyers are guaranteed to have a home that they can surely afford.

Sun City Area Attractions

Sun City is 2 minutes away from Lake Pleasant Recreation and the mountains area, 20 miles away from the Phoenix Metro, 2 miles away from the Interstate system and extensive freeway of the Valley, and within a short driving distance from the state’s amazing range of climates and scenic wonders.

Just several minutes away are Wildlife World Zoo, Rio Salado College and Arizona State University West, Symphony of the Valley, Challenger Learning Center, Mayo Clinic, and more. Additionally, numerous American, ethnic and mixed fare restaurants within and around the place, as well as the contemporary multiplex movie theaters, give the residents of Sun City wonderful entertainment and lifestyle choices.

Industry Expert Review

A living model of one of  the largest housing trends in the country. Even by today's standards Sun City has one of the most unique land plans featuring roads in layers of circular patterns with large amenities centers at the heart of each neighborhood. While the homes were built in the 1960-70's most have been update   d and remolded over the years as the community is still in one of the most desirable locations in the area.
