Life at La Cholla Hills, Tucson Arizona

Located on the northwest side of Tucson, Arizona, La Cholla Hills is an age-restricted community built by Fairfield Homes in the mid 1980s that comprised of 389 residences and a limited number of lifestyle activities. This community is perfect for active adults and retirees who are looking for a retirement home in Tucson well situated close to YMCA, Foothills Mall and many excellent retail outlets and restaurants.

La Cholla Hills is 2 miles north of Ina Road, on La Cholla Boulevard. Across the road from the community is the Omni Tucson National Golf Course and Hotel. In addition, the Northwest Hospital, as well as lots of shopping centers and movie theaters is in close proximity.

La Cholla Hill amenities include a small clubhouse with outdoor pavilions used for community gatherings and events. The community also features 2 heated pools, 2 spas and 3 newly refinished tennis courts, two of which are lighted for play during the evening. Each pool has allocated times to allow children who are visiting to utilize the facilities; however, one of the pools is reserve for adults all the time.

La Cholla Hills has no activities director, but homeowners arrange community events and coordinate activities and clubs, such as men’s tennis, women’s tennis, ping pong (a number of players are highly ranked), water aerobics, Hatha yoga, canasta, bridge, mahjong, men’s poker, shuffleboard, monthly cocktail parties, monthly potluck dinners, women’s luncheons at local restaurants, men’s breakfast at local restaurants, morning coffees, the weekly Take A Hike Club, and talks by community members and guest speakers on their specialty.

There is an operational HOA in La Cholla Hills, and many of its common areas are well maintained. Homeowners are open to join in as few or as many activities as they want.

In addition, La Cholla Hills has an exceptionally safe neighborhood where residents can feel comfortable walking at any time of the day or night.

Residents who like to get acquainted with people and make new friends will have no problem achieving that. They can volunteer for an HOA committee, go to a party held at the clubhouse, or chat with fellow neighbors who are out for a stroll. On the other hand, those who are not into socializing will have their privacy respected.

La Cholla Hills Homes and Real Estate

Construction on La Cholla Hills started in 1985 and completed in 1989. A lot of the houses have been restructured with new tiles, carpets, roofs, paint, and modern kitchens. Only pre-owned homes are available for purchase in this community. All homes have living space that range from 700 to 2,000 sq. ft. in size and feature 1, 2 or 3 bedrooms. Majority of homesites have mature landscaping and gorgeous views.

La Cholla Hills Area Attraction

La Cholla Hills is situated close to numerous large supermarkets, several restaurants and hospitals, the Tucson Omni Golf Course, and the Foothills Mall. The community is also near downtown Tucson, allowing residents to visit art galleries, attend cultural and sporting events at the University of Arizona and concerts and enjoy casual and formal dining at one of the many restaurants scattered all over the city. At the corner of Magee and Shannon, about 4 minutes via car from La Cholla Hills is a YMCA that features a huge pool and a completely equipped fitness center and offers numerous classes, like aerobics, water aerobics, yoga, and various other activities geared towards people of all ages. The Tucson International Airport is approximately 25 minutes via car from the community.

There are many golf courses in close proximity to La Cholla Hills, including Golf Club Dell Urich, The Pines, Silverbell, Crooked Tree, and El Conquistador. These courses charge reasonably priced green fees.

Industry Expert Review

Buyers should consider that older homes built in the 1980 may require some updating and may be less energy efficient when compared today's newer homes. While the homes feel close to one another from a left & right perspective, there is quite a bit of distance between homes in the rear of the homes which most people appreciate. Many of the resale homes on the market have been update    d with newer kitchens and bathrooms.
