What is Unique about Sun City Center?

Yes, this community is older. However the uniqueness of the original vision create    d by Mr. Del Webb is still in place. The community is rich in amenities and has hundreds of clubs, associations and volunteer groups you can participate in. There is literally something going on 7 days a week for you to enjoy. With more than 9000 residents making friends will never be easier. Despite the age of the homes they are still neatly trimmed and freshly painted and offer residents an amazingly affordable lifestyle in a very friendly and non-pretentious environment.

Life at Sun City Center, Florida

Sun City Center is a famous active retirement community close to Tampa, Florida.  It is an unincorporated census-designated place lying in Southern Hillsborough County, Florida, United States. This neighborhood is located 25 miles south of Tampa and north of Sarasota on I-75. A lot of retirees opt to spend their golden years in this area because of its ease of access and proximity to Tampa, the Gulf of Mexico and other breathtaking attractions in Florida.

In 1962, Del Webb planned to make Sun City Center become Florida’s Premier Retirement Town. He carefully planned and developed this community to provide a variety of housing to accommodate retirement. The community became an instant hit to active adults. However, Del Webb decided to discontinue the project and sold the remaining land in 1972. From that moment, numbers of optimistic developers have taken over to realize the original objective of the community --- Provide a happy community to active adults!

Sun City Center has a long list of facilities and amenities that are primarily designed to cater to vigorous and healthy lifestyle of active adults. This active retirement community prides itself on its recreation centers, luxurious golf course, safe walkways, fitness centers, spectacular landscaping and sociable people.  Without a doubt, this is a great neighborhood to meet other active adults with whom to make new friends and establish new relationships.

Whether you love engaging in outdoor sports or prefer indoor activities, we have all the amenities to cater your active lifestyle. Besides, we have access to professional sports, performing arts, state-of-the-art medical care and shopping centers. Your every need has been considered in this community.

Aside from being an active adult community, Sun City Center is also famous for its golf courses and numerous club houses with community pools and fitness centers. To keep the community active and lively all year round, the Community Association hosts the annual Fun Fest. The said annual event gives fun-filled outdoor activities featuring local clubs and organizations. In addition, two annual festivals the Ruskin Seafood Festival and the Manatee Arts Festival are celebrated within 10 miles.

Sun City Center is an ideal destination for active 55-plus adults who seek the most out of their retirement life. Basically, this area enjoys more than 300 sunny days each year. The warm and subtropical climate in Greater Sun City Center attracts quite a number of retirees to reside in this active adult community. Essentially, more sunny days only means more days to engage in outdoor activities the whole year round.

Actually, Sun City Center is not a retirement community since residents in this neighborhood are too busy to retire. With the luxurious golf courses, tennis, basketball, volleyball courts and other sports facilities, there is no reason for resident to have a dormant and monotonous retirement life. But if sports and other outdoor is not your cup of tea, you can also join yoga classes, the computer club, compete in mahjongg tournaments or participate in different acting groups and choirs. Moreover, we have our own library for book lovers. A variety of community activities and events persuades a lot of 55-plus aged adults to have an active and happy lifestyle. Sun City Center ensures that residents will be cheerful and active 365 days a year.

Sun City Center Homes and Real Estate

Industry Expert Review

One of the original Del Webb communities founded in 1961 by its Del Webb with the goal of becoming the premier retirement destination in Florida. Mr. Webb was a true visionary of his time and had a tremendous passion for building these amazing retirement communities. He lead and interesting and colorful life having been a close friend of Howard Hughes, owning the New York Yankees and contractor for the first hotel in Las Vegas for Buggsy Siegel. While the community is now nearly 60 yrs old the Land plan is really masterfully designed and well ahead of its time. The community is a mix of old and new as a fabulous new clubhouse was built after 2005.
